Population

Sawamish County is home to around 68,000 residents across several cities, unincorporated communities, and tribal lands. The Sawamish name comes from the tribe who initially reside in the area, named the Sahewamish. The county was founded in 1853 and was formed out of neighboring Thurston County. Attempts to rename the county after the Washington secretary of state, Charles Mason, were unsuccessful. There are still several tribes across the county.

Geographical Information

Sawamish County is approximately 1,000 mi² and comprises many islands, lakes, rivers, inlets, and bays. There are over forty mountains located within the county, as well.
